World's Biggest Problems

Armed Conflict/War
Not much explaining is necessary; war has plagued the world ever since societies were created. The problem is more and more countries are going to war with bigger and more devastating weapons. The solution to this problem could be to expand the power of the United Nations so that any country that participates in war receives a strong punishment from the UN.

Climate Change
Global warming is heating up our planet and shortening our natural resources. Sea levels are rising, species are becoming extinct, and seasons are shifting. Also, stronger and harsher storms are created as a product of global warming. The solution to this problem is to first recognize there is a problem. Some individuals do not recognize global warming as being real or being a problem. In order to solve the problem of global warming, we first have to recognize there is one.

Nuclear Warfare
Nuclear Warfare and Nuclear bombs were first introduced into the world in 1945 in a remote location in New Mexico. Nuclear bombs were first used in 1945 as well when the United States dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima. This is a current problem in the world today because more and more countries have nuclear bombs and if each country starts to use them it would have devastating impacts around the world. A solution to this problem could be to put stricter bans on nuclear weapons in all countries.

Gender Discrimination
In most countries around the globe there is gender discrimination. Women are being treated unfairly and not getting the same rights as males. A solution to this problem is simple, treat everyone the same. Allow women to have the same rights as males in each and every country.

Poverty
Poverty can be seen in every country, but is more apparent in countries like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger, Burundi, Mozambique and several other African countries. Citizens are living without the basic needs such as shelter, clothes, or food. We can try to solve this problem by increasing efforts and donations from first world countries to help lower the poverty rate in these countries.

Running Out of Water
Nearly two million people die from unsafe drinking water every year. Ninety seven percent of the world is covered in water but only a small fraction of drinkable water is available. Almost every thing we need uses water as well. A solution can be to improve the process of desalination, which is turning salt water into fresh water. This is very expensive and requires a lot of energy so if we can improve desalination, then drinking water could become more available.

Animals Becoming Extinct
Zebras, Peacocks, and Giraffes are just a few examples of some animals going extinct. A rise in global temperatures from global warming and hunting the animals for trade are just two causes of the animals threatening situation. A solution to this problem would be to create a higher awareness for which animals are threatened. Next, stricter hunting laws should be put into place.

Lack of Education
Children in third world countries face a huge challenge in the fact that they don’t receive proper education. Some children don’t have schools to go to, others don’t have the qualified teachers to train them. A solution to this problem would for the UN to step in and allocate resources to the countries and communities that do not have the schools or the teachers to education their children.

Corrupt Leaders
As we have seen throughout history, one corrupt leader can threaten the lives and change the world very quickly. Leaders like Mohammed Suharto, Ferdinand Marcos and Mobutu Sese Seko are just a few that have created severe problems in the countries they once held power. A solution to corrupt leaders is to ensure each government has at least one system of checks and balances in place.

Increase of Global Population
In the last fifty years, the world’s population has multiplied more rapidly than ever. By 2050 the world’s population could be as high as nine billion people. This is a problem because more people mean more resources and the world can only sustain so many individuals. A solution to this problem could be to find cheaper and natural forms of energy. If we can find more sources for energy, more resources like water and oil can be produced.

  1. These are definitely some very serious problems and I agree that they need to be looked at with more seriousness. I feel like this assignment was hard because there are really so many problems, and picking just a few is challenging. I especially agree with your environmentally based ones, and I have a few of those similarly on my list of problems. Thank you so much for sharing and if you are interested in looking at my take on the worlds biggest problems the link is http://kyrstind.blogspot.com/2016/01/worlds-biggest-problems.html.
